If you've given us full information, it sounds like a misprint.

But I suspect you haven't. Are you looking at the WHOLE score? Both hands of a piano part? Or, as a comment suggested, might it be in bass clef? Second space in bass clef is C, and a C♮ accidental would be very logical in a piece in D major.
