Cavocaval anastomosis via vv. epigastrica superficiales et thoracoepigastrica
(I ask you to pardon me for wrong terms because I am not studying medicine in english)
I've read that the v. porta superior is connected with the v. porta inferior via a cavocaval anastomosis through the v. epigastrica superficiales and the v. thoracoepigastrica. I get the basic idea of an anastomosis to enable the stream of blood to take other routes in case one is blocked for a short time but I thought this is only possible if its still in the "right direction". E.g. in the case of a varicosis of the v. saphena magna the blood creates a backlog in the deeper venes and a greater amount streams through the superficial (if secundary) or (if primary) the vascular wall becomes weak and prevents the valves from closing sufficiently what enables the blood to stream backwards.
I am not sure wether I got this right but the latter does not seem to be the case with the superficial cavocaval collateral circulation.
Does somebody know what I missed?
Thank you for any answer. :)
