Without hearing how you are actually using these chords, (the rhythm, if you've written a melody then what that sounds like etc.) it's impossible to give an answer to this question.

If I heard the context and how you are actually playing the chords, I might suggest some specific changes to the chords you are using or how you are using them. On the other hand, maybe I wouldn't do that at all, maybe what the song is "missing" is some other characteristic, and perhaps different chord voicings, a small change to the melody, some better "linking" between these exact chords etc. would sound great.

Take the following chords for example:

G, D, Am

They could be the basis for a really boring song. And perhaps a song that needs some changes to the chords, you know, maybe if I actually heard a specific song I would recommend that to improve the song and make it more interesting the chords should be changed to something like | G | D9 | Am11 | Ab7b5 |.

On the other hand, " | G | D | Am | Am " is also the chord progression to "knocking on heaven's door". And in that context, I'd say that the simple chords that are used are best just the way they are.

The point is, chords on their own tells you nothing, in order to know what changes would be best for a song, you have to actually know something about the song more than the chords. So upload an audio! (or sheet music)
