What is a good app, software or other efficient method to type out staff notations?
I’m asking for suggestions and recommendations from music theory educators who often need to prepare music lesson notes and set tests that will require a lot of staff notation images, for e.g. an interval, a scale or a chord.
[Edit: I’m teaching a new module on basic music theory, and will have to prepare a lot of materials on the recognition of intervals, scales and chord structures of all kind. These include printing lesson notes, exercises and test papers.]
A lot of free programmes like musecore and noteflight makes it mandatory for me to include a time signature which I won’t need when I’m simply trying to illustrate say a 7th chord. And even with the time signature included, to include that image of the chord into my notes or test question, I’ll have to print screen that chord, crop it and manually insert that picture onto my word doc, which is such a pain when you have so many such images you need to deal with!!
[Edit: This “copy-n-paste” method is what I’m using now, but sometimes it’s really time consuming to search all over the internet for the right image of a specific chord or interval I’m trying to illustrate. While I can use pencil and paper to draw, being able to properly “type” and print them out would definitely make the materials look neater.]
Fellow music educators, how do you go about doing this?? Any tips to share??
