Determining what sounds good
Before I ask the question, assume the following about me:

an especially high affinity for auditory stimulation
difficulty tuning out
intermediate to advanced knowledge of music theory

I seem to be looking at what I saw someone once called "idea stack overflow". I feel the need to determine what sounds good with out being overwhelmed. The ideas in question are in the form of midi.
What are some methods you guys use for deciding what is a noteworthy idea, and given the assumptions above, it has to be something deeper than going by what sounds good (to my ears `lest it be the first time I hear/play it.)
