Is TAVR/TAVI possible for patients with minimal aortic valve calcification?
I am a medical student currently learning about cardiac diseases and treatment options. Just a while back, I heard about transcatheter aortic valve replacement surgery and how it may serve as an alternative to traditional open heart surgery.
In health publications and articles, this procedure is often associated with aortic valve stenosis resulting from aortic calcification. However, there is not much information about implementing this procedure on patients with minimal calcium deposits or simply a congenital problem.
Just out of curiosity, can this procedure also work for patients with relatively minimal aortic calcification? If it cannot, then why can it not?
