How to make an 8-year-old boy use the toilet instead of a potty?
I have an 8-year-old son. He won’t poop in the toilet, only in a potty. If we take the potty away, he’ll poop all over the floor. He’s been tested medically and been cleared. He did before he even started school. When he has to pee, he’ll just stand and do it and laugh at the splash. It’s not the flush sound either he loves loud noises.
He knows when he has to go because when we’re out in public he tells us when he has to go but if we try to talk him he just goes in his diaper. If he wasn’t wearing a diaper then he’d go in his underwear and it would be a big mess. Now when I change him, he starts peeing. He’s only started doing that in like the past week or so. We have to bath him. If we’d left him unsupervised in the bath he would poop in it.
He loves school and likes learning, but does average. He wears a diaper at school but usually doesn’t use it. If we send him in underwear, he poops in them. He doesn’t poop or pee at school, he holds it all day. The school told use he can’t come back unless he’s potty trained. He was upset when the school said he couldn’t come back but that didn’t change anything.
Every time we ask him why he only uses the potty and not the toilet he says he doesn’t know. We tried rewards and making him clean it.
How do we get him to use the toilet or do we just let him use the potty?
