How can I best clean my cat's drooling mouth without making things worse?
I have read How can I best manage the drooling from my sick cat? and I'm looking for a way to alleviate my cat's pain.

My cat is 22m and has been drooling for the last couple weeks. His vet has prescribed antibiotics and pain reliever, but the drooling has not stopped. I try to clean his face using soft tissues whenever I see him drool, but I realize that his skin may be very irritated and painful from the drooling. I'm looking for any kind of relief for my baby.

Because his appetite has slowed, I have been supplementing feeding him via a syringe. While this seems to eliminate some of the drooling, he has also been making a swallowing action (kind of the way I feel when my allergies and post nasal drip run amok). Feeding him via a syringe seems to make this worse.

I have started cleaning his face daily with water, and then dabbing a bit of antiseptic / anesthetic wash to help kill any germs and numb the pain. I have a followup with his vet for Saturday, but in the meantime, what is the best way to clean drool from my cat's chin and face, and how frequently?
