What is the range of times for fasting for glucose and cholesterol/lipid tests?
I have been reading references on the Internet about the fasting times before getting a blood test for glucose and cholesterol/lipid, and they all indicate at least 8 hrs for glucose and 10-12 hrs for the cholesterol/lipid test.
When I went to the diagnostic centre, I was told I had over fasted already on the 12th hour mark. I did some reading and found a journal stating there is not much difference in the blood glucose after 4 hours since last caloric intake and they measured up to 18 hours after the last caloric intake.
Is there really a need to keep the time to draw blood at 10 hours?
