Music Scanning Software
I have a question about music software, and I'm looking for a particular feature. (I put this under the software tag for software questions, if that's ok). People say that I should "describe the required function and setting in which the equipment will be used, and ask what you should look for to achieve that."

I am wondering if there is such thing as an application which will scan a piece of music and make a digital rendition of it . So I want to be able to give it a piece of music in the form of a pdf, and make modifications to it (that is the function).

As for the setting, I am looking to use this to transpose a piece in a way that would save me time. Specifically, I am looking at a piece of Mendelssohn in E flat major for piano which I am looking to transpose into C sharp major.

What should I look for to achieve this?

These types of programs do exist. They optically scan the score and convert it into a format that can be read by notation software. Sometimes the scanning software is included with the notation software, and sometimes they are separate. The modifying and transposing is more a function of notation software than the scanning software, but your overall goal is definitely achievable.

Here's an article addressing this very subject: www.musicrepo.com/music-scanning-software/
