Hair analysis for a fictional story
I am writing something where hair is used as evidence. The hair sample was found on a crime scene, but there isn't a lot of it - two, three hairs tops. One would be best.
What I need to happen is that the only things the police finds out from the hair sample are the sex of the person and their ethnicity. Nothing else. Is it possible to determine these things from such a small sample? Is it plausible that nothing else is determined? How long would it take to carry out the analysis, typically? The story is set in 2008.
Not sure this is the right SE, but it's the closest I could find...
