What drug would be good for use in human tranquilizing dart?
I was wondering what drug would be good for use in a human tranquilizing gun. I was just thinking about a common police situation in which a suspect will have some sort of melee weapon (knife, hatchet, sword, chain, etc.) and is usually stationary, keeping officers at bay. So often this situation ends tragically. I was wondering what drug would be good in this situation. A few things to keep in mind (I don't know how much is asking too much, I appreciate all the information that you can provide):
It needs to pretty quick acting, less than 10 minutes, less than 5 minutes preferred, under 2 minutes desired.
Preferably the amount of drug typically needed to be effective should be as far away as possible from the LD10 so that if extra doses are needed, the likelihood of death would be lessened.
Assume 1 dose ("bullet") will knock out the average person. State what that dose is, and what percent of people will succumb to such dose.
Provide how many doses a person could take before reaching the LD10.
The drug should have some sort of antidote to reverse its effects in case of overdose, but also, simply to bring to once the person is secured.
The drug should be reasonably well tolerated (no major adverse side-effects for infrequent use).
The drug should be able to be administered intramuscularly (I understand this may limit onset time, but, I believe, this is unavoidable.).
If there are any other considerations you can think of that I have not listed here, please include them.
